I don’t know about you but I’ve heard a lot about coconut oil lately. A lot of what I’ve been hearing is about using it for nutritional reasons, however there are other ways to benefit from using coconut oil. I love when I find something that is inexpensive, all natural, and can be used in many different ways.
My favorite ways for using coconut oil
- Moisturizing my skin, especially those really dry areas like my knees and elbows. Also, I have found that it really helps prevent dry and chapped skin on and around my nose when I have a cold and am constantly blowing my nose.
- Acne prevention, even though I feel like I should not have to deal with this problem in my 40’s. Trust me, I have tried all kinds of other acne treatments and I have to say that using coconut has given me the best results. You might be skeptical since it seems odd to put oil on your face in order to prevent breakouts. You would think it would cause clogged pores instead, but it really doesn’t. It doesn’t even make my skin more oily. If anything I think it has become less oily since I started using it. I put some all over my face every night after washing my face and before going to bed. Sometimes I even use it as a facial cleanser and exfoliant by mixing it with baking soda.
- Wrinkle prevention, I wish I would have known about this at least 10 years ago. It’s really too late to prevent the wrinkles that are starting to form around my eyes. At this point I’m just trying to slow down the process. Coconut oil really does seem to be helping with that. I put a little under each eye and all over my neck morning and night.
- As an antibacterial ointment, very handy for small cuts and bug bites. It keeps them from getting infected and seems to speed up the healing process. I usually apply it to the area at least once a day until the cut is gone.
- Keeping my hair moisturized and the frizz under control, I have naturally curly and very fine hair. I mostly just put it on the length of my hair once a week before going to bed. I wait until the next morning before I wash it out. Those are usually my best hair days, the ones right after using it the night before.
These are just the ways that I use coconut oil. I’m sure other people are using it for other great reasons as well. Being that it’s easy to find, inexpensive, and all natural it’s hard to find a reason not to use it. Even if my husband and kids do think I’m a little crazy for thinking that coconut oil is the answer answer to so many problems. I would love to hear how other women out there use it to make their lives better. Let me know!
